On The Front Lines Of Innovation for 12 Years
Founded in 2004, Evergreen IP started out as an investment fund that reviewed inventions and early stage technologies, then hand selected a few to invest in, and develop into real products, with the goal of licensing those products and technologies to large players in the space.
Leveraging our background in CPG, tech, IP, venture capital and startups, multiple products were developed and brought to market. However, over the course of our conversations with prospective licensees, we became aware of a broader set of issues, that made it difficult for large companies to interface with and benefit from externally-developed technologies. While in theory it’s possible for R&D or innovation managers to successfully review and integrate useful products and technologies from outside of their own laboratory’s walls, the amount of friction that gets introduced by the potential for IP contamination, nuisance lawsuits, mismatched expectations, ambiguity around legal ownership of early stage concepts, and the sheer volume ideas, most of which are good but not useful, and the zeal that some submitters display in their sales efforts, is often enough to prevent any technology, from passing through the necessary corporate and legal firewalls.
In 2009, Evergreen IP pivoted our business model. Instead of bringing one or two (of our own) technologies to our prospective licensees, we became a gateway that allowed our clients to safely and efficiently see all of the interesting products and technology that external innovators were reaching out to them with.
Since that time, we’ve been representing our clients as the portal for all innovators and technology developers to have their patents, products and technology, evaluated on behalf of our client brands. For submitters, regardless of whether their technology is of interest, they are treated with courtesy and respect, and constructive feedback is offered as a courtesy whenever possible. Our goal is to leave submitters with a positive impression of our client brands even when declining a submission. For our clients, after the first few months of learning your business and learning your interests and disinterests from your direct feedback, we calibrate the process so that your product development process is enhanced by seeing additional technologies that are relevant, useful and timely.
